MISTERY Detonation

I have been having trouble with detonation on my '94 LT1. Here's some backgroung of the motor/mods and what I have already done.

'94 Stock Longblock LT1 w/ Hot Cam Kit, stock TB, Vortech Elbow, SLP CAI, Manifolds, no cat, Flowmaster, NEW Opti-Spark(3rd replacement), NEW Ignition Module, LT4 KM, MSD 6AL, NEW MSD Wires, Stock MAF (tried MAF ends but made better power up to 5200 rpm, but it made the problem worse), Autolite Plugs, Stock PCM program, T56, 4.10:1 Gears, 160 Thermostat, Manual Fan Switch.

I have cleaned the injectors/combustion chambers via the fuel rail with BG Fuel Cleaner every 7500 miles, replaced the fuel filter every 7500 miles. I put the stock KM back in, and it still continues. I have no spark retard indicated by the TECH1, and O2 = ~950mv at WOT. While at the track, I disconnected the battery to reset the LT and ST fuel tabels and it helped. It will return to this condition after about 50 miles of driving though. When approaching about 5200 rpm in first gear it begins to "drop" a couple of cylinders here and there, and the detonation begins and continues to 6200 rpm. After short shifting into second, it will go away until about 5200 rpm where it continues again.

I give up on trying to figure this one out. I would like to get LT1 Edit or similar software, but the budget deosn't permit right now. Any free-ware things that I can run with my Hypertech Tuner Cable (programming not used, only speedo, rev limit, and fan control) I have also considered a MAF translator to help in the tuning aid, but I feel that it shouldn't do this, as it used to run great. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks ahead of time,

Cole

You should get freescan and log some runs.
It will tell you the spark that your computer is telling the engine to run.
You may need to drop it a deg or 2 in that area to prevent detonation.

The thing that stumps me is that you aren't getting any knock retard. Any Detonation should cause knock retard unless it has been disabled.

Hope that helps.
