Makin the A4 shift
Makin the A4 shift
I'm useing tunercat on my buddy's 95Z w/A4 trans and i cant mak it shift when i want it to. I set the shift MPH down low but it still hits the rev limiter/ fuel cutoff. Is there any good info to read somewhere?? or does anyone have suggestions??
Car has 3.73's and edelbrock headers, gutted cats, egr mod all else stock.

What do you have the kickdown mph and thresholds at?
Send me the file and I can take a look at it for you and see if I see anything screwed up.
Where are you trying to make the car shift at, and what mods does the car/trans have?

A4 shifting Question
No this isnt the same car. That 1 has a 400 turbo. This car is nearly stock w/ 373's cheasy headers and the egr mod. Bein a newbi and taking on a trans shift prob has been quit the challange. I just found out that he had a hyper tech programmer on it and firmed up the shifts. I put a file in that had shift firmness adjusted and shift MPH lowered and was real close but it would still hit the revlimit a tad before it would make the 1-2 shift. The 2-3 shift was right on the money so i tried lowering the 1-2 shift mph a bit and for some reason made it worse?? ran out of time that day so gonna go back to the first file and try again Suggestions welcome

No haven't had time to get back to it yet. I will definitly let you know the outcome. It cant be that far off, it was only barely hittin the rev on the 1-2 shift. And yes i did find out that he had a hypertech on it and changed the shift firm. Will that mess with the tunercat programing at all?? I would think what ever i load should be (boss) over what was done in the past.
thanks for the help.
thanks for the help.
I'll bet that both files I sent you will fix it. The kickdown mph for the 1-2 shift was 4 mph too high.
If you want to keep the Hypertech shift firmness in it I would go ahead and do it. If you don't want to, then use the file I sent with the line pressure tables changed back to stock.
Your choice. Either should fix it.

Send me the VIN for this car I will get a fresh GM BIN and give u another file to try. There could have been some corruption between all of the flashes going on. This way you will be assured with a fresh latest and greatest BIN direct from GM with fresh unalterted shift tables to work with.
I have a complete latest GM SPS system here at home to download the calibrations from so it will be the latest GM updated files a given BIN

I've been having a similar problem. I was challenged to a race from a 40 mph roll. So I raced the guy and lost. WOT at that mph puts me into 2nd gear, if it was 30 mph the car goes into 1st. Then another guy challenged me a week later, 40 roll. So I tried to do something about it, since 2nd gear is weak at that mph for starting a race.
I raised the Kickdown 2-1 MPH shift point by 10 I think. (The same tables I've used for dynoing in 3rd and staying there no matter what.) So instead of 30 mph being the cutoff, 40 would be.
Anyways, I test it out, and from a 40 roll it goes into 1st but bounces off the rev limiter. Same thing at 30 mph too if I remember right. I even tried manually shifting, but I don't think it would go past 30 mph in 1st. I said screw it and went back to stock programming. I didn't have much time to fool with it.
I know other tables might be edited to make it work... I know there is a manual shifting table (although I didn't really want to do that). But what else could have I edited? The upshift points should have been the same, doesn't make sense to edit those.
Or is it impossible for a downshift to 1st at 40 mph... to close to the shift point/rev limiter and it gets confused? Things happen too fast?
