mail order tune...how?

I see alot of people that have the mail order tune's like pcmforless and madz28, but i was just wondering how these work?

Do I just send out my pcm and tell the person doing the tuning what mod's I have and they create a program for it or what?

I'm very new to the tuning world so take it easy on me...

Thanks

Re: mail order tune...how?

With either tuner, there are two options. One is to do a PCM exchange where a core charge is involved. (you pay a deposit, in my case $115, on top of the tuning fee of $80 + $13 shipping)
You will get a PCM, then you return yours for a refund. (this is useful when you cannot have any downtime)

If you are sending in your PCM for reprogramming, you pay just the programming fee and return shipping charge. You will also fill out a tuning order sheet on the website with your information.

You have the right idea- No mention of Hypertech in your post! You won't go wrong with Ion MadZ28.

Oh yes...no Hypertech for me. After reading and reading on the forums, i've come to the conclusion that it's a total waste of money.

Madwolf- I checked out the site and it seems pretty cool. JW, if i send you my PCM, about how long would it take to get it back?

Re: mail order tune...how?

hi,
i was just wondering,i'm also new to tuning, and have some plans for a couple of my car's coming up,first do you only tune camaro/firebird?i have a 88gt mustang as well, which the engine is getting hopped up as we speak, should be a real runner and i dont know much about the fuel injected world, anyways, secondly i have a 97 z28 camaro, with a 6 speed,i would like to get things done within the next few months,

1. delete rear o2 sensors,
2.skip shift eliminator
3.thinking of getting pacesetter longtubes,so i would need tuning???for a lt4 knock module,instead of buying right??

my thing is i would like to do a couple of these things fairly soonly, however maybe this winter,i was thinking on doing a cam swap, and head's and intake cleaned and ported,so i would need 2 different tuning session,or how do you guys work this?thanks alot.

Re: mail order tune...how?

1Quick.... Ion (Madwolf) is great. He got my buddies car running ALOT nicer in one shot. Besides changing A/F timing etc...he can change the shift points, "hardness" of the shifts etc. Great job ...specially for the price!

One thing you might want to do though, is get someone with a good scanner to log some files. This might help in tuning.
