LT1 wiring harness question
LT1 wiring harness question
Does anyone know what gauge the thin wirings in the harness that go to the TBS, IAT ect are? Would I need any special type as far as resistance and such?
I'm redoing the harness and need to add about a foot to the wires.

I don't know what gauge the wires are off hand but you can easily match them. Just as important, make sure to properly solder and heat shrink ALL the connections you make and enclose them in a wire loom.
Thanks.
So and copper twist of the same thickness and # if wires inside will work work? I was just wondering it there might be some special resistance?
I'm real **** about the soldering and such, I actual cut all the wires about 2" apart to solder and shrink tube seal. This way they fit nicely back into the factory plastic tubing. On other harnesses I even spent hours pulling the thread out of the heat shielding cloth then sewing it back together so it fits nice and tight. I was hoping to find a stock harness from a junk yard so I could retain all the color coding as well. But so far they all want to sell the entire thing. All I need is the opti, TPS, ICS and AIT. I'm routing then straight down along the accessory bracket then along the block. I'm using the small tapped holes in the block with brackets I make to keep the wires away from heat and to attach wire looms to also keep the plug wires away from the headers. As well as wrapping then in the heat reflecting tubing. Did this on the Driver's side last year with no problems. So this year all the wires on the top of the pass side of the intake and the main harness on the fender well are being hidden. The only visable wires are for the injectors, and they even wrap up under the fuel rails and are retained with clips I made.
On my 84 Z I did the same harness mod to hide all the wires and relocated all the relays under the dash. it really cleaned up the engine bay nicely. I used a harness from a TPI car to get the same size wires, so the color coding didn't match. it was fine for me, I knew where the wires routed under the dash and then thru the frame rails and out and up under the engine. If that car ever has an electrical problem the new owner is going to go nuts trying to figure out where all the wires are relays all go to!

there is a store on ebay that sells pigtails for all the sensors used on the LT1 and also color coded wire as used in GM harnesses.
I'll PM you on that one.
