LS1 PCM conversion ?'s
LS1 PCM conversion ?'s
OK, I'm getting ready to fire up my big inch small block and I keep getting turned down by all these tuners, afraid to touch it because of the LT1 EFI. Well I'm considering converting to the 411 PCM on my next engine, which will be SB2.2, because I can delete the MAF alot more easily(more flow). This leaves me with questions though.
Will the 411 PCM install interfere with any other modules, like the ABS module? Can I still access the codes if I wanted, hell would the ABS still work? Last time I checked ABS only needed VSS input from the PCM...
It seems the LT1 opti and the Vortec distributor share the same cam position sensor frequency. Not sure where I found this info, but can anyone confirm this?
If not: I can run the LS1 PCM at the same time as the Vortec dist., using an L31 harness. I would have to make slight changes so it would work in a 4thgen.
If so:this would be a more practical solution than me cutting up timing covers (lol) so guys could run big inch small blocks in their cars and not have to go broke on DFI. Also would eliminate the opti if it shared the same signal, and would rock for guys wanting single planes and a serviceable cap and rotor.
I found a list of parts needed to convert a gen 1:
Vortec timing cover
Vortec damper on SBC motors only
Vortec crank sensor and tone ring
Vortec distributor
harness
Vortec ignition module/coil
knock sensors
411 LS1 PCM
(may be forgetting something)
How would the rest of the cars functions react recieving input from this PCM?
Antitheft, airbags, ABS, traction control?
'97 Z's use different clusters than the '98+ because of the tach signal. LS1's also use individual coils. But it seems when the 411 PCM is used with a vortec ignition module that it works fine. So I'm assuming that the tach will work fine?
Are there any special wiring considerations if I were to want to build a harness for myself to replace the LT1 harness? I'm thinking: take an express van harness, ditch the unnecessary wires, splice in some LT1 C210/c220 and c230 connectors, add individual wires for the injectors (L31's have a fuel 'pod')retune and run, making what minor changes are necessary to the connectors as needed...I would just need to compare wiring schematics to be sure that any circuits using relays in the relay center were set up right.
if someone could help me verify these things, I might just use an Express Van harness and 411 PCM in my next build since the PCM seems more able to deal with the engine I have planned... I'd be willing to run this setup and if I have time I might compare it to the LT1 as well.
