Low idle at cold startup
Low idle at cold startup
Hey all,
You can see my setup below. I have idle set for 1000 RPM but it can only reach it after the car warms up to about 130F or so. Until then, it wants to stay around 600 rpm and then slowly creep up until the car is warm enough.
IAC count is fine when warm. I have it so it hits about 40 when at operating temperatures but realize that it is full open (160) when cold and until idle can come up to 1000.
What can I adjust to get it to idle better when cold?
Ben

IAC drill mod can help increase idle airflow to further lower IAC counts, but if you are down to 40 warm, that's pretty good already. I needed to enlarge the hole quite a bit with my similar overlap cam & a Jegs TB - you have a few * more duration but I have a few * less LSA. I played with the throttle blade stop first to verify more bypass air would help.
Maybe cold timing or fueling is off? Temp sensors working right?
BTW, my car always idles low & rough at cold start until I rev it a couple times, then is fine.

Thanks for the help but had already done the TB drill mod and refuse to open my blades any amount. I have perfect BLM's at idle with no issue normally seen with large cams.
As an update, I changed my intake to a very short ram air design instead of a very long intake with many bends. Seems my problems are resolved by doing this. Pretty interesting. Now IAC sits at 70 when hot and on startup, the engine goes immediately to 1000 RPM as programmed.
