knock module options...

on my last LT1 i had a small cam and ran an LT4 knock module but im wondering if i should do the same on my current T/A, or can something be done in the tune when i have the car tuned professionally. I'll be doing a mild heads/cam swap and having the car tuned, is there an option to delete it/turn it off and if so is this smart/dumb. Should i grab another LT4 KM or what... thanks

Re: knock module options...

The LT4 KM has an updated knock detection circuit that prevents false knock reporting from the LT4 valve train (RR's). It can be installed in many LT1's to cure problems from false knock caused by valve train and header modifications. Plus I was getting false knock in a specific RPM range on a stock '94z and the LT4 KM fixed the problem. If you are NOT getting false knock, which can only be diagnosed by scanner or logging software, the LT4 KM is not needed. However many who do not have the diagnostic tools install a KT4 KM for insurance ($80.00) just in case they may have false knock. I know you can dial out knock retard on the ODB1 PCM, but I can not answer for your OBD2, I would presume so. In answer to your question, disabling knock retard can damage an engine w/real knock. Secondly if your knock is false today, a defective injector or other sensor could cause real knock in the future and your engine would not be protected.

Mail Order Tuners offer it as an option for both cars (93-94, 95+) so if not then they are probably lying about their services.
