Ignition module required?

Hey guys, yes this is an ignition question... But, the question is specifically derived from installing an Accel DFI system.

The car is a '96 Trans Am, with a procharged 383 LT1. I'm installing the gen 7 ecu and Im down to just a few more items to hook up.

I'm using my MSD opti, MSD 6a box, and an MSD Blaster HVC II coil. I did not buy Accels ignition harness as I have no issues making my own (meaning I have all the connectors and wire available).

Accel's ignition harness plugs into the coil, opti harness, and ignition module... But it the instructions don't say anything about the use of the 6a box.

IIRC, with the stock pcm and wiring, the 6a box recieved a signal from the ign module and changed it before sending it back to the coil.

My question is this: Since the stock pcm is completely gone now... Do I still need the stock ignition module or can the 6a box do the same thing on it's own? (Im thinking along the lines of how you would setup a old school style MSD dizzy that requires the ignition box to operate)

The ignition control module is used by the factory PCM and ignition system to control spark dwell. If the aftermarket ECU performs this function itself then it should not be required.

Just got back online, been sick for a while and now playing catch up...

So, if the DFI ignition wiring adapter uses the control module; then the Gen7 ecu likely needs it... I guess I'll call Accel and see what they say.

Thanks for the input, greatly appreciated!

Time to dig into the wiring part of this. Just finished the fan control harness.
