I goofed up and wiped my ecu

I have a 95 z28 which i was tunning with lt1edit at the time. While in the middle of burning in the new tune my buddy had x'ed out of the program because we forgot to correct gears. after we did the gears we tried re-connecting and it would loud up. We let it sit for a while at 0% and it never left 0%. I sent a email to akm friday about my problem cause I read his write up about it (http://www.mindspring.com/~amattei/flashfix.htm) I wouldnt be able to do this myself so i had contated him in hope he can take on my problem at whatever his going rate is. I understand he is probebly busy but I was wondering if anybody else knew of a place where I can get this pcm socketed and chipped. Im not in a extreme rush seen as though im sending my tranny out tomarrow to gt rebuilt. It would be great if i can get both things back at the same time.

I just did this with mine except I left my scanmaster on while programming... no go there!

Anyway I got another PCM for $50 and works great. Now I have a test PCM so I pulled the chip using alum foil and a torch... I hear you can fix them using an Intel based NIC card that has a socket which I didnt have so I ordered a $20 universal chip programmer off Ebay Im gonna give it a shot.

buying another pcm wouldnt benifit me cause I just bought the lt1edit which is only locked to that one pcm. Anyway I think you should check out that link the other guy posted. The price is right and if it ever happens again I just buy another chip rather than sending it out.

I'm almost certain that LT1 Edit locks into the vehicles VIN not the PCM. So, I would think more than one PCM could be used on the same vehicle?

The vin is programmed into the pcm from the factory. I sent it out to mad tuner and got it back in less than a week. I got it socketed also for $80 included shipping, that way if it happens again all i do is remove the chip and replace it, no soddering required. I highly reccomend them.

I have LT1_edit too and quit using it cause of this, Tunercat allows you to change the PCM VIN so you can again use LT1_Edit if you really want, or just use Tunercat.

Tunercat is also cheaper, and better.

Also, I just bought a universal chip programmer of Ebay for $25, this way I can flash my damaged chips forever for the cost of one new one off the internet, hardest part is getting the PCM socketed, that part might be worth the $80. The flashing can also be done using certain Intel based network cards that have the matching socket, but I dont have one of course.

Throwing out all the options.

Put you PCM in another car of your year, and read the file. It will say his VIN. The VIN is stored in the CCM. Also, you can copy another PCM file and flash it in your car, it will then read your VIN.

I maybe misunderstanding....but I have two PCM's. Both 96's. If swap them, my VIN changes. Are you saying it's linked to the program or hard coded into the PCM?

The reason I ask is because I don't know.

The VIN in the PCM can be changed with programing. Tunercat for my 94 OBD1 can do it.

But the vin # is programmed into the pcm correct. Weather it can be changed or not wasnt my arguement.
