Hook computer directly into data/diagnostics port?

I was wondering if there was a cable and program somewhere that I can use and hook my laptop directly to my data port and use the computer to monitor the speed, RPM, etc. Just thought it'd be a neat thing to be able to do.

Autotap.
You can use your laptop or your palm. Be careful if you deside to run the laptop on an inverter instead of the battery. There has been issues.
