Help me decided...2 bar or Maf 600+rwhp

OKay what do you guy on here that have messed with the 2 bar think I should do.

I contacted bryan at pcmforless and he says 2 bar is a disaster. He thinks do a maf tune and mess with PE tables to get it right.

I got this email 2 hours after I ordered my 2 bar map lol.

Or should I just do the 2 bar SD tune. I was planing on messing around with it. But if I get the car running with the MAF and make good power I may just stick with that. I just wanna get as much power as possible.

383 LT1 made 420RWHP N/A now gonna be seeing 8-12 PSI I was hoping for 650 to the tire.

MAF sensors top out at 471 or 512 gm/sec of airflow... that's around 500hp worth of air. How could you run an 800hp engine with a MAF sensor?

The only way I could get the PCM (OBD2) MAF to pass more air was to raise the high MAF threshold frequency cal to the max (about 65k). The MAF will max in WOT mode with the stock cal tune. The PCM does not use the MAF in WOT mode since it will be in PE mode. Using LT1_edit version 2.2. (383ci D1 MM6 97ss). B.

If you read my first post.....use PE tables after it maxes.

Im gonna start with a maf tune to break the cam in I think then just switch to SD after i get some of the little kinks worked out.

So airflow is then calculated based on the VE tables?

I thought the LT1 PCM couldn't switch to the VE tables when the MAF was maxed?

Ever consider using an 85 or 100mm MAF? Also, you can get a thing called an AFC that allows you to scale your MAF output back and gives you more headroom in the table. Check out to turbo forum on clubgp.com for more info. There are a few 450-600hp turbo guys in the W-Body community using these methods. I just sold an AFC, otherwise I would let you use mine to see if it would work.

Well of course you going to hear all kinds or response or rebuttal's on this subject. I can tell you I ran a stock maf, less screen, 2 bar map on my 95. 12lbs of boost made 648 RWHP on the pump and 722 RWHP on the fast gas, Maxing out the MAF??? A/F was flat as a board..Just got to know how to tune it...

Try both....it's easy to switch back and forth and I think to truly know which is best you need to try them both. For me I was having better luck with the 2 bar and it seemed to be more user friendly so I stuck with it and will not go back.

Agreed. A mail order tune for your car is like a replacement piece of drywall from pre-fabbed house.com (stock) vs a house you built from scatch which they sand/paint/tune until perfect. Yes, the pre-fabbed chunk should fit the frame but it wont be anywhere near perfect.

Serious, the comparison is as simple as that. If it wasnt, car companies (which pre-fab everything) wouldnt have MAF sensors to take up the slack.

Bryan has been doing it for a long time. I trust his judgement. He's dyno tuned many many cars.
