Unhappy Help: Dyno question on 94 LT1 A4 car

I use Tunercat for Tuning and Datamaster for data-logging...

How do I get the car to "not" kickdown to 2nd on the dyno. We have to get the car upto like 75mph to get a good dyno run without kickdown and then we get only graphs for like 3500-4000rpm upwards.
I tried lowering/increasing the kickdown tables but it either did nothing or kicked down wayyyy ealier. I'm sure I'm not doing something right.

So, if anyone who's exerienced in dyno tuning A4 cars, pls. educate me onto which parameter(s) I have to change in order to get a good dyno run.

Thanks in Advance

Re: Help: Dyno question on 94 LT1 A4 car

First off SAVE your file so you can revert back to it after you are done on the dyno..

I have done it a few ways and had it work. Some cars work with only doing the Perf tables.Others need the kickdown and the normal tables modified as well. Now i just do them all and be done with it..

Go into the "Performance Up/Down Shift Points" table and make the 3>2 and the 4>3 both 160 MPH across the whole TPS % range ABOVE 12.5%..That way it won't kick down till unless you get it to 160,but will still kick down once you finish the run and let off the throttle so it won't want to stall..
Go to the "kick down up/down shift points" and set the 3>2 and the 4>3 to 160 as well just like above..
Go to the "Normal Up/Down shift points" table and do the same as the Perf table..
And set the "Kickdown Shift RPM thresholds" to a few hundred RPM MORE then you plan to turn the car..So if you are gonna turn it 6200 set the threshold to 6600,ect..

If you have a GOOD TQ converter you can lock it up as well in 3rd gear so it won't slip. To do that just go into the "Torque Converter Engage" table and put the 2nd,3rd gear parameters all to 20 MPH..that way once it gets to 20 mph it will lock up the TQ Converter.

Just be gentle as you are getting it up past 20 MPH,it will shift pretty hard due to the converter not slipping anymore but it won't hurt anything on the dyno "i wouldn't do that on the street though",after you feel it lock up and you get it in 3rd you are ready to make a pull..Just make sure to leave the selector in 3rd and not 4th.you don't want it shifting to 4th on the dyno..

You can save all this as a BIN file for later use..

Steve

My car upshifts to 3rd at 73 and stops downshifting at 66, and I'm running 3.42s as well. Odd that your car will still downshift to 2nd at 75 MPH
