help with 95 Z28

Just got my first Z28 last week. Car has not been properly cared for and after spending lots of time reading this forum I have decided to dig out my ancient laptop and see if I can learn to diagnose my own engine code problems. From what I have read I gather that I have OBDI on my car but require an OBDII plug. Can anyone help me with this and give some suggestions please? I really think it would be a great learning experience and could also avoid spending money for a local yardmonkey mechanic to just pull and replace til they get it fixed. LOL. There are some great mechanics around here but if I at least have a clue then I can make some of the repairs myself. A link to the exact cable I will need would be most appreciated. Unless of course someone has an extra cable to fit a 95 model they can part with. Thanks in advance for all replies.

Hi,
contact Andrew at andrew@akmcables.com and tell him Ion sent you.

His website is www.akmcables.com and if you want something cheap, but good, you can opt for his $65 "crimp" style cable. Then there are a variety of tools that will pull the codes for you. Some are free, some you have to pay for.
My favorite one is TTS Datamaster (and Andrew also happens to be a distributor for it). You can download it from www.ttspowersystems.com and check it out. It's free for 20 scans which should last you for a while and also give you a pretty good idea how great this program is.
