Tranny control with FAST?

well i am still waiting on my FAST system and i have had a lot of ime to think about a few things that i might have to deal with when it gets here. some of you have said that your stock ECU is totally out of the car adn on a shelf somewhere. well if you do that what controls your transmission? is there a seperate TCU? i have just been sitting around trying to think of every possible problem and senerio before i get started installing all this stuff.

Just one last question: Is $1950 a good price for a FAST LT1 system with wideband and harness?

im waiting for my fast system to come too... if you have an electronic controlled tranny, contact www.fasttrackperformance.com, talk to mac, he's got harnesses that allow you to keep both stock ecu for tranny controls, and fast ecu for fuel/spark control. best of both worlds! guys who have their pcm's out are most likely running either non-electronic automatics, or t56's.

if you have tunercat or lt1edit, you can program the stock pcm to run speed density, so you can take the maf out w/o setting a code, and the ses light wont come on (you dont need maf for fast, its speed/density, so this way you can clean up under the hood a lil bit.)

good luck and enjoy it! not a bad price, about the same as what i paid

I use my old ECM (PCM) as a door stop. Went with a non ac, non ABS, t400 gearvendors od, custom instrument cluster using ABS sensor as a speed sensor, and DFI. Thats how some of us do it.

If you have tunercat or lt1edit, or even hpp, you can reprogram your shift points, and calibrate the speedometer for different tire sizes, and make any adjustments you want. Not sure if hpp will let you adjust line pressure, but tunercat and lt1edit both will. So there's no need to spend an extra $700 for the tci tranny control unit, when for $100 or w/e it was for tunercat and a $100 akm cable can do the same thing.

ahhh thats great i buy a $2000 programing system after months of trying to find a way to do what i need with tunercat or LT1 edit and now i find out that i still have to have one of those. thing is, i already have a box (not the B&M) to control line pressure on demand so the only thing i might need is to reprogram the shift points to work better with the turbo. Anyone know if the GM Tech2 can do this? what if i found someone with a HPP3 and just used it for a minute?

I am having several tuning issues with my Procharged 383 Stroker LT4. Me and Bryan Herter have been working on it for a while. I think I am going to go with the FAST system. Where did you guys get that system for $1950 with wideband and the harness? Thanks!

tranny signal

So will my tranny be able to recive any signals from the FAST? if i chuck the factory ECU and still have the 4L40E whats happens? will the tranny just not shift? the FAST is laid out on my bed right now i got it last night so i am ready to get this on the car as soon as i can figure out how the tranny is going to work.

The FAST system is just fuel and spark. There is no VSS input, and no shift solenoid outputs. There is no way you can work an electronic transmission with the FAST system alone. If you simply disconnect the electronic controls to your 4L60E, I do believe that it will not shift at all. It's a good test though, if you want to simply disconnect it and go around the block quick before you start hooking up the FAST system. Let me know the outcome if you do that

i know the FAST is just for the fuel/spark control, that is why i am trying to find out how to get the tranny to work with it. is there a way i can keep the factory pcm to just run the tranny? my FAST came with the LT1 specific harness so i will not have any splicing to install it.

It's a little late now but Mac at www.fasttrackperformance.com makes a harness that you splice into the stock PCM to retain controls of the tranny, a/c, and gauges in the dashboard.

TCI makes a trans controller for ~$700. JEG'S sells them.

That's one of the ways. You can still get the harness from fasttrack or make your own harness to keep the stock PCM running the tranny.

ok i talked to my tranny guy today and he told me to try to find a wiring diagram for the FAST harness so that he can see what it replaces OR to install the FAST and drive the car in the default 3rd gear to him on a Saturday so that he can splice in where he needs too. i also emailed fasttracks to get more info on what they offer. anyone know what their harnesses cost? will the fasttrack just plug/splice in WITH the FAST harness or did i totally waste my money with the FAST?
thanks for the help.
