Factory alarm. I need to disable or get it working.

I have been fighting this alarm for a long time now. The car was down for 2 years and I am thinking it might be from my PCM swap. The PCM does not have the same vin but it was from an identical car. But what happens is the keyless entry no longer works. And when I unlock the door with a key I have about 10 seconds to get the key in the ignition and turn it or the horn starts sounding and the alarm goes off. I would like to find the problem and fix it and to get my keyless entry working again.

There's a key fob - car synchronization procedure that can be performed to link your key fob to the car. Sounds like your key fob isn't linked to your car anymore, for some reason.

I believe the owner's manual describes the procedure.

I'd try reprogramming the fobs first. You can also try pressing and holding the lock and unlock buttons on the remote simultaneously for a few seconds and see what happens - door locks should cycle and parking lights flash.

do I have to go to the dealer to reprogram the fob?

If the battery in the fob dies would it cause this to happen?

It might if your car "auto-arms" itself after the door is locked. Certainly worth trying.

Well that sounds like a good idea. Thanks for the help guys. I will try this soon as i leave work and keep you all posted. It kind of makes me mad though because I called the dealer describing the same problem, I spoke with the head mechanic guy and he acted like he had no idea what was wrong with it. He told me to bring it down but he wouldnt know until he looked at it. Rather then give a helpfull tip it sounds like he wanted my money.

You can reprogram the fobs yourself, no need for the dealer. There's a guide on how to do it at installuniversity.com if you need it.

Ok I followed the steps on installuniversity. The car functions as described but the key fob does not work. I am thinking maybe the fob is bad. Can I get a used replacement of these? And if so what years makes, models are compatible to my 98 V6 Camaro? Thanks.

If you've followed that procedure, and tried replacing the batteries, and it still doesn't work, there's a good chance the fob is dead, for one reason or another.

Not sure on the interchange. If you have a part number in hand, you could probably get the dealer to tell you if it would work or not.
