engine off...knock counter still going
engine off...knock counter still going
I've been troubleshooting a problem I've been having with excessive knock. Today, while I was recording a datamaster log, I noticed that when I have the key turned on the knock counter immediately starting rolling over and over. The engine was not running. Any ideas? Would this be an expected result of a short?
This is on a 93LT1

Pretty sure I would have remembered seeing that.
Only thing I remember was excessive/unexplained knock count during
startup....?
On a side note...I was working on a Syclone a couple weeks ago and saw knock count going crazy in datamaster, but never saw any actual knock retard? That had me a little confused...
Re: engine off...knock counter still going
Try it again,
start the log with the key on and the engine off and you'll see the knock counter running up.. Happens on every 93. I can email you datalogs from other people that show the same thing

Relax, I'm not always trying to start **** with you...just every now and then.

Well...proved wrong again.
Maybe it was changing before I touched the key but I don't remember it that way.
And Ion, Captain and coke would be fine...but I just put the bottle away.

You bring up a good point.
I have some leftover Black Label from some weekend I can no longer remember
I will try to refrain from tuning anything tonight.
Everyone back to the topic now.

I think you take too many things the wrong way.
I wasn't upset at all. I never try to seem synical or like a smart a**. I just said to try it again.
its the internet and you can't tell when people are being sarcastic or nice by what they are typing..
I coudl have been like 'Hey stuiped (in best john boy & Billy voice) Try it agian'
On a side note.. I don't think i've ever looked at the knock counts with a tech 1 or tech 2 on a LT1 so I don't know if its a datamaster issue (prehaps its looking for a signal that isn't there because the car isn't running) or if the 93 comptuers are just setup to do that.
What type of consistant knock problems are you haveing? Is it prehaps a y pipe touching the floor or something like that?

Re: engine off...knock counter still going
Well, I put a little more time into this tonight. According to my Helm bible it's a 5v signal on the wire to the sensor. I disconnected the sensor and put a meter to it and measured 5v. Helm says that once the sensor is connected that the voltage should go to 2.5v. I replaced the sensor while I was already there and plugged it back in and measured 2.5v where the wire runs into the computer (C8/dark blue). So...it looks like everything is working fine. I'm not really seeing any retard as a result of this according to datamaster.
As far as being a Datamaster bug, I'm not so sure. I looked back at an old log that I have from 2002 and it's not doing it. It is possible that I'm running a newer version of datamaster now too though.
So now I'm not really sure whether there is a problem or not.

Re: engine off...knock counter still going
- Looking back at the old logs and seeing that this wasn't happening has really got me stumped. Any additional ideas? Is it safe to assume that since my measurements show a steady 2.5v that there really is no knock occuring. I may be retarded but it doesn't appear that the engine is for any reason while this is happening.
Re: engine off...knock counter still going
oh I believe you guys...but I first noticed it with the car running. The fact that it happens with the engine off was just something I noticed while troubleshooting. So, it's basically happenning all the time no matter the condition.
