Engine idles rough and stalls
Engine idles rough and stalls
Guys, if you got any ideas, please jump in.
I was backing out to take the car for emmission & safety inspections and it started to run rough. The SES was on, it had a code 14 & 15 so I replaced the Wells CTS (which BTW was only 6 months old, but the engine has only been run continuously 20 minutes) then, I checked for codes and got a 51 & 52, I didn't believe it was the Memcal (also new) so I replaced the ECM, and checked for codes again and got a 51, so then I burned another chip, installed it and no codes, but the car still runs roughs sounds like it missing and stalls when I goose the throttle, or when I let off. Since it's a new engine I'm ruling out low compression.
It was running fine, and no codes. Since my tach wasn't working I set the idle by ear.
Things I have and haven't done:
I went back to the stock igntion coil no change.
I disconnected the MAF, no change.
Base timing is correct at 6°BTC.
TPS is set at 540mv.
I couldn't set base airflow because tach doesn't work.
I haven't check fuel pressure, but pump is a new Holley 255lph.
I haven't checked for vacuum leaks.
I haven't tested the spark, or ohmed the plug wires.
The following items were installed when I received the long block 3 months past:
All sensors, relays, solenoids, egr, Injectors, O2 and spark module are new, except for IAC, and MAF.
New Crane HI6s Module plugs & wires, cap & rotor, ignition module, and pickup coil.
New K&N filters, and new Cat.
My thoughts are: and will test/check on 8-28-03
1.) vacuum leak
2.) low fuel pressure (pressure regulator is not new, modified to adjustable maybe a vacuum leak source.)
3.) MAF; srceens were removed, but it ran fine during the cam break-in period.
3.) weak spark; possible broken or burnt plug wires.
