Question EGR

I set the EGR Enable, Minimum MAP to 99Kpa. Shouldn't this keep the EGR from
turning on for any MAP reading below 99Kpa or do I need to adjust the Min and
Max RPM levels also? Using Datamaster, I'm seeing the EGR Duty Cycle going to
0% or 12.5%, and only those two values, quite often with only the MAP setting
changed.

Thanks,
RobY

I would think setting the min kPa to 99kpa would have done it but apparently not.

I disabled mine by changing the "Min coolant temp for EGR enable" or something like that. I set it as high as it would go, like 212C. Looking over my datamaster logs it never comes on anymore...

Was that parameter available in TunerCat? If so, could you tell me where I can find it?

Thanks,
Rob

Yes, its in tunercat but I have a 93 so it may be different on your calibration.

Anyways on mine its under "ECM constants" and its labeled "EGR Coolant Temp Enable Threshold". I just maxed that out to 150C and my EGR never comes on according to Datamaster.

Yeah, I don't think I have that parameter available in my '95 version. Thanks for the reply though!

know what i did? i took the vacuum harness off. you know, the one that goes from the manifold to the vacuum valve to the egr valve. then i put a vacuum line plug over the fitting on the manifold. when it comes time for inspection, i just put it back on.

I did it that way for a while too but I got tired of getting a Code 32 (EGR failure) since the ECM was still looking for the valve to open. By disableing it via programing the code doesnt come up anymore.

Rob - Thats kinnda weird that it isnt there. Especally when you have like 3x as many things to play with as I do

I guess you could try setting the "EGR Enable, Min RPM" to like 7000 or something.

I’ve tried the following with little change in EGR operation, although I've disabled the code so I don't get that at all anymore. Note that these changes DID reduce the EGR functionality from the stock settings, but it didn’t eliminate it. FWIW, my EGR is blocked off so it’s not “really” functioning but I’m trying to cut my teeth on this s/w and started with the “easy” stuff.

Min MAP = 99kpa
Min RPM = 6000
Max RPM = 0

Min MAP = 100kpa
Min RPM = 6275
Max RPM = 6375

Min MAP = 100kpa
Min RPM = 500
Max RPM = 600
(my car is an M6 that idles at 800)

I noticed the greatest EGR DC reduction with these last settings and it seems that it’ll only come on in 6th gear with MAP >= 46kpa. The funny thing is it isn’t constant duty cycle….it’ll toggle between 0 and 12.5% and generate a square-like wave on my Datamaster screen. I’ll continue to goof with it in my spare time!

Thanks,
Rob
