Do I need a Tune?
Do I need a Tune?
About two years ago. Bryan from PCM.Forless provided a nice mail tune for my 94 LT1 (355). At that point everything was stock on the motor except my Cam. Camshaft 224/236 duration @ .050", .536"/.555" lift with 1.6 rockers, 114lsa. I also had the 612 valve springs to support the lift. Bryan had mail tuned my car for this cam.
NOW:
After two and half years spinning bearings in my 355, I have completed my 385stroker motor. However this time I have cleaned my heads with mild port work. added 6inch rods and .040 on the pistons, and a 3000 stall TC. In Comparison to my old 355 my motor is the same except for the stroke. With this information I have been in contact with Bryan and asked him if I would need a new tune. He told me that I would not because the cam is the same and everything else is stock.
So my question do you Fbods is. Is he Correct? The only major thing that is happining with my motor is that when I turn car on it idols perfect. Its only when I drive it and come to a stop sign. My motor dies out leaving me to restart the motor. Im just wondering could that be the 3000 stall TC thats in it? Could my Idol need adjusting? Please help. Race day is T-minus 4days, (PSCA west coast shoot out)
Thanks
Chris

He must have been having a bad day. You built a 385 and didn't put new injectors in it? He should at the very least tune for the stall and different shift points. The maf should be up to the task of suppling extra fuel.
The injectors will support the same horsepower as before , but just remember that it will come on a lot sooner in rpms than the 355. Don't burn yourself and an injector by driving your 383 like a 355.

Yeah I was kinda of thinking that too about having a bad day. Thats why I decided to post on the boards. Now as far as putting new injectors in, Well this 385 stroker was on a VERY VERY Tight budget. I can't afford all the other nick nacks right now. But that is one of my first mods is to do injectors and TB. So basically what your saying, is that the tune will handle the horsepower fine. BUt I will not be able to run too much because of the 385 and its use of more injectors?

your new displacement will completely alter the way the engine requires its A/F delivery unless you altered the camshaft to those exact same specs ( in other words, increased duration 5 degree's maybe... LSA, and a few other things...
I'd say logically you need a new tune, and preferably a dyno tune.
