Question Datamaster reveals MSD rev module kicking in early?

I logged a run in 3rd gear tonight and I felt my rev limiter kick in early so I let off the gas. The one I have plugged into the MSD is the 6,500 module, but looking at my tach I felt it kick in around 6,200 -6 ,300.

I looked at the data log later and it said 6,350 is the most RPM I made, so this verifies what I experienced. I didn't have any knock retard or lean spots, so it looks like it was in fact the rev limiter. Do these things work progressivelly/staged meaning they start cutting off spark a little bit before the number stamped on the outside and then when you reach that RPM it really cuts it all off ...... or do they hit all at once like a fuel shutoff? It wasn't a real hard hit like a fuel cutoff but a much softer touch, is that it? I once had my 6,000 plug in when pulling out of a carshow and it definitely kicked in around 5,700 - 5,800.....it was very obvious that time as my tires were spinning through 1st, I could tell it was a rev limiter that time.

Is this just a normal deviation? Maybe they're set up that way to be safe. I really want my rev limiter set to 6,500 .....so I need to put in a 6,700 plug or something I guess? I keep my fuel cutoff 100 RPM above my spark cutoff.

The regular datamaster has a limitation of 6375 RPM I believe. You need to get the beta version to be able to log RPMs past that.

Thanks ....but still, I am pretty damn sure I was at no more than 6,350 when the MSD kicked in ......is that normal for a 6,500 module? Does anyone know?

....anyone? Do these rev modules start to kick in gradually before the RPM that's printed on them or do they hit right at that RPM?
