converting serial cable to usb

does anyone know how to convert a serial cable to usb? its a aldl.com serial to 16 pin/obd2 style.i now need a usb cable,my old laptop finaly gave out and my replacement laptop doesnt have a serial port.usb to serial converters dont work, and im pretty mean with a soldering irn, so if anyone has a schematic or can instruct me on how its done that would be great.

on a side note, make sure to seatbelt in those laptops when datalogging.trying to hit 100% tps on the street can cause panic braking and broken laptops.haha

this is what I use. Works great for CATS, Datamaster, and the LM-1 wideband software.

I had to change in from COM8 to COM2 though in my laptop.

Be careful with those as they are not a true UART speed, better way is if you have a PCMCIA slot, get a serial adapter for that as it's true serial at that point, goes straight to your motherboard.

I make USB cables for $50 shipped in the USA.
These are designed and built by me and not a USB adapter but a complete cable.

Email me for details.
