cats problems. HELP!

Hey, I just got the cable in the mail for cats and I can't get the thing to connect.
My laptop doesn't have a serial port so I used a radio shack usb to serial converter. Has anybody ever got one of these to work with cats?

I opened it in hyperterm and it won't connect with makes me think that the communication isn't getting to the converter.
and then I tried opening pcmcomm and it kicks out a bunch of checksum errors trying to recieve.
thanks

I am not certian but the guys without a serial port are using a "belkin" adapter, it seems that that is the only one that works....
Do a search on belkin and it should come up.
