Can you make a tune to add "lope" with a stock cam?
Can you make a tune to add "lope" with a stock cam?
I've read a lot of stuff about computer tunes and whatnot, and I plan on getting an e-cutout in a week or so to help get the low rumble I want to attain. I've also read that some people will post sound clips of their car with a "lopey tune" and "race tune" etc etc to make it sound different at idle. Is it possible to up the lopey sound at idle on a stock cammed car?
Re: Can you make a tune to add "lope" with a stock cam?
you could always just undo a couple of spark plug boots. then it would lope. of course, that would be just as stupid as tuning your car to make it lope.
Re: Can you make a tune to add "lope" with a stock cam?
I think I should get LT headers first
What are some good cams for stock, unported, heads? Will they hurt low end torque?
What would you say a basic bolt on + cam only car would run in the 1/4? Or at what mph would it trap??

If you get a custom grind cam alone with bolt ons...you can see anywhere from mid 13s to mid 12s depending on the cam. You'll also need to have it tuned (Ion and PCMforLess both have great reps)
Everyone puts "go fast" into their cars and THEN when they break stuff, they fix it. The correct way (IMHO) is to build the chassis, suspension, drivetrain and THEN build the motor.
Is this a manual? If so, a new rear end is in order. Do it before it breaks
If not, get your basics. A GOOD TUNE UP!!!! (NO BOSCH PLUGS OR SPLITFIRES) Run..don't walk from gimicky crap like that...SSRA, LT headers and a full exhaust w/cutout. You will crap your pants the first time you drive an LT1 with LT headers. BIG difference from what I've seen.
Next up would be Subframe connectors, shocks, and a good set of tires.
After that, it's up to you. A cam setup will yield a great bang for the buck. Talk to Ion (madmax) or the guys over at www.speedinc.com for exact specs for what you want. Either should be able to give you a good heads up. Keep in mind, that porting those heads/replacing them will only help any cam you dump in there reach it's full potential.

Re: Can you make a tune to add "lope" with a stock cam?
Thanks, I actually have a cutout on order from Thunder racing
Next up should be shocks since my stock ones are about blown and suck so much. Then I'll go for LTs and I'll see where I go from there. Probably more stuff to make the rear suspension hook(adjustable LCAs, panhard rod, etc) then I'll go for either gears or a cam maybe?
Too much crap to plan ahead for lol.

Re: Can you make a tune to add "lope" with a stock cam?
Just remove your exhaust besides the manifolds and try driving around like that. If you throw on some LT's you won't even burn any valves. It will sound like a pretty nasty cammed car.
