Cable failure..

Im trying to figure out whether my cable is junk, or I dont have it hooked up in the port correctly, or my comp. port isn't setup correctly...Anybody have any tips? Im just trying to read the car, then upload a file...hopefully to datalog after that..Car is in sig.

Using an USB port cable, OBD1.

Try it with a real serial port first... even if that means setting a computer up in your car.

The USB serials dont usually work.. at least not reliably.

I went with a PCMCIA serial port, it works perfect

Got it off ebay super cheap no name brand. Red Chief or something like that? Hard to find drivers for no name cards if you ever lose them.

Now that you mention it, I dont remember a CD driver, that came with the cable...That could be my problem...Would any USB driver work for that? I found a couple on Moates..

Hit up Ebay, and didn't find anything under Red Chief...

I downloaded a USB driver off of the Moates site..the laptop recognizes that the cable is there, but it still says..."no message sent-cable failure", whenever I try and read the pcm. Any help on how to tell whether its the cable or the laptop?

More than likely it's not set up to read on the same COM port as the cable is plugged into. Plug it in, make sure it's read properly. Go to start, right click my computer, click manage, click device manager, click COM and LPT ports, and find what COM port your cable is using. Set your programming software to that port... it ought to work then.

UPDATE: I found an ALDL test file, and tested the cable. It passed every test that I performed. Set everything up on the right COM port, and it passed! Now the message that Im getting is "No response from PCM", WTH does that mean? Cable not hooked in the port correctly or??
