Auterra OBDII scanner

Do someone have experience with the Auterra-Dynoscan?
www.auterraweb.com
This product looks fine to me but I never saw a comment. It should be something like Autotap, with the possibility to calculate a power + torque curve based on the car data (weight, air resistance and so on).

Thanks - Stefano

It is a generic OBD2 scan tool. You would be better off with Auto Tap for the money, they too offer a palm tool as well. But at least you can get an enhanced GM tool for about the same amount of money.

Are you working with autotap?
If yes with Palm oder laptop?
It's true, autotap for palm is cheaper, but it doesn't calculate any power curve... I wonder how accurate it's the auterra.

I use both from Auto Tap and you are correct it does not calculate power. Mind you that is only a calculation so I doubt that it is very accurate. I also have a GM TECH2 scan tool and it to does a "torque" calculation, but I have no idea as to how accurate it really is as far as real power is concerned. I can tell you that when I datalogged my Suburban during a dyno run the torq numbers did not even come close between the two devices.

Well.. the power curve is something that probably needs a dyno. If Auterra it's not accurate the A-tap software will be fine too, and it's cheaper.

How practical is to use Palm with this application? For addresses, some excel sheets and appointments it's grate tool, but how is it to scan an engine compared to the PC-program?

Do you know if Palm can handle EFILive PRO? or is it only for PC?

Thanks - Stefano

Stefano, the Palm loaded with the Generic OBD2 stuff is fine if that is all that you require. Also it is nice becuase its portable and compact and will do datalogging within its limits.

However if you need the enhanced tools then a laptop becomes a necessity. I am not very familiar with EFILive Pro. Auto Tap sells it as well even though it was developed by an Austrailian firm. You can visit the Auto Tap website and check them out to see if it is compatible.

And you are correct the only real good way to calculate enging power is with a dyno. And even then its calculated by the acceleration of a known mass and or load. But at least that is accurate and repeatable.

I think you've reason about Palm + atap + generic program. What I need is to be able to read codes, rich or lean, and some other minor stuff. The enhanced version is way too much for my needs.
I'll look around for more informations... the scanner is not a rush but still something to have.

Thank you for the help!

You can do that with any of the generic tools and be able to clear codes as well. Feel free to contact me if you need any more assistance.

How is the weather in Zurich this winter? I was in Switzerland skiing several years ago, it was a great time!

Here is not too cold now, daytime about 32F. Some snow and cloudy. Since I have a convertible I'm waiting for the summer like crazy... never had this with the coupe!
Not so many people in the US knows about Switzerland and it's always confused with Sweden... how long have you been here? And where? I live here but I was born in the south (Lugano). I't about 10 Miles from the italian border, culture and language is same as in Italy.
Where are you located?
