Any way to check codes on my obd2 lt1 without software?

I realize this is primarily an F-body site, but I also realize a lot of people here have a tremendous amount of knowledge regarding any LT1 pcm related issues, so here we go.
I've got a 96 roadmaster. basically the same as the cadillac fleetwood.
On one of the cadillac sites, it says you can get the climate control screen to show you the DTCs. I followed the steps, and got it into the diagnostic mode, but don't have the button to scroll through the codes. Apparently that button only comes on the fleetwood. My car is sitting in my work parking lot, unable to start, showing me double zeros in the beginning of the code sequence, refusing to show the actual codes. If I had the codes, I'd know what to look at. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Why not just take it to Autozone? They'll scan it for free.

There might be a sequence specific to the Roadmaster, but you would need someone with a service manual (or a Roadmaster forum) to tell you. Any chance that info might be in the owner's manual?

I'm pretty sure that tool is also part of their loan-a-tool program so you can probably take it home and scan.

I doubt the procedure would be shown in the owner's manual though, but it probably is described in a service manual.

I NEVER thought of a scanner being part of their loan a tool program!!!! I called and they said it IS part of that deal. I buy it, use it,and take it back. Nooooooooooooooo problem.

You da man, madwolf!!!!!!!!

I'm going over there tonight and get it. I don't know if I'll go to work to check it tonight or if I'll wait until the morning. (Working OT tomorrow. KA-CHING!!!!!!!) Although, the money will probably go buy parts for the car.

If this thing doesn't cause me too much trouble, I'll be getting a service manual for it. The Haynes "manual" is fairly useless.

Thanks for the help. Maybe now I can get this ignorant thing running.
