I have been using a tactric openport 2.0 J2534 cable to tune my WRX for the last few years using opensource programs. Just wondering if theres anything like this for the us in the 96+ cars. I'm adding a turbo setup to my built camaro and would like to tune it myself w/o spending an arm/leg for DST tuner.

Is there any opensource for GM tuning or no?

I doubt it, since most GM vehicles in the US use the SAE J1850 VPW protocol for OBD2. Aside from DST Tuner, LT1Edit for OBD2, and the older version of Tunercat OBD2 tuner (good luck getting your hands on it if you aren't willing to spend a lot of money), I've never see any other tuners for OBD2 GM vehicles. Maybe some of the guys that have OBD2 vehicles can give you more info, I mostly stick with OBD1 GM stuff.

You can get a OBD1 conversion PCM from MadZ28, or you can open up an OBD1 PCM yourself and add a resistor to the knock sensor circuit.

The get a cable from aldlcables.com and use Tunerpro RT or Tunercats for table editing.

I just did the same thing to my 96 after seeing the prices of OBDII tuners.

I have JET DST and wish I would have gone the OBD1 route. There is no good datalogging available for OBD2.

Looks like i may go the madtuner OBDI conversion then, i'm rebuilding my new engine, has less than 3000 miles on her, with 9:1 forged pistons, main studs, custom cam, and new heads with a T76 turbo setup. Will the OBDI be easy to flash and tune? Is flashing it all done through the tuning program directly to the ECU or do you flash chips or something then install them into the ECU? i'm new to OBDI stuff sorry.

For flashing you use a program called Winflash that costs $20. I think it comes free if you buy tunercats though. Unless you have a 93 you flash the car through the OBD port. 93's have chips that you need a burner for I believe.
