ALDL cable issues

I am having problems getting my ALDL cable to work properly. When running datamaster it passes the test, and I can get the VIN and tell the computer to clear the codes, but when I try to record I can only get a couple recs before the connection is lost. Are there settings or anything that I should change? I have also tried downloading the program with pcmcomm, but it gives me a message that there is a connection error. Can anyone help me out?

Note: I don't have a serial port on my laptop and am using a Belkin adapter f5U103 or whatever usb adapter. I get 12V from the cigarette lighter, and the transistor on the board reads about 6V, if i remember correctly.

Most likely problem is your USB adapter.

Did you ever get your problem resolved?

When it would stop working I unplugged everything, let it cool down and blow off all connections then plugged it in again and it would work again. Some itmes just unplugging and plugging it in several times did the trick as well. I don't know whether it is corrosion on the connectors or heat building up in the black box. Either way it sure is a pain in the butt to stop what you are doing to mess with it. Especially since the download time is so slow.

I have tried downloading the pcm program, and the program itself locks up. And when i use pcm comm to see what my sensors say, I get bad checksum error or something similar to that. I'm sure it's a settings issue, but can someone guide me as to what to change, because I don't have any idea myself.
