Air pump question on lt1.

I got my PCM tuned, and the guy who did the tune up, he did also turn my air pump off. So my question is, will this do anything with my emissions test? I'am in CA. so I need to pass that test to use my car. He said , "since your car is an OBD1 so it will be ok". I would like to hear your opinion guys. Please let me know.

it helps warm the cats so they work...i dont think it matters bc when they do emisions test it will already be warm...but i do think it shortens the life of cats

Hmm, I wonder how much it shortens the life of the cats, then. That air pump sure takes up a lot of room in the engine bay.

Re: Air pump question on lt1.

I don't think it really helps cat life as haven't had an AIR pump for a lont time. I had a used stock LT1 cat that i put on my car and i ran it several years with just a Pcm4Less tune on my heads and cam car. I finally took the cat, back off the car and it was just the same as the day i put it on there.

I don't think I'll pass visual inspection anyway. Maybe I should forget to put it back on in the rebuild.

It must not hurt cat life too much, as GM's fix for the failing AIR pump in the B-body cars was to remove it completely.

Re: Air pump question on lt1.

As said earlier just make sure you run the car for like 10-15 min. before you head to the emission test. The air pump shuts off after about 1-2 min. anways. So if you put good gas in and run it for a few min. before the test you shouldn't have a problem. Good luck
