Advance Auto Parts scanner says I must plug device in....?!?!?

The last two times I went to pull the codes from my pcm at AAP, their scanner doesn't seem to be detecting my computer. It just tells me something like "Device must be plugged in" or something. I plug it in and turn the scanner on just like I always do, but now it wont work. What the heck is going on?!

Since you have a '95, I bet they're plugging an OBDII code puller in, and it won't work.

Well, i have an obdI pcm and I was using an obdII connector because that is the kind of connector I have. Keep in mind I was successful at scanning at this same place before with the same type of device. Are you saying that possibly they have two identical looking scanners and only one of them scans obdI? What would be the purpose of them having multiple connectors in that case?

you have to set the scanner up to read the pcm thats in it now ,not the year it actually is

edit, i didn't read enough.... i thought you changed to obd1 from obd2

If they were able to pull codes on your '95 before, they should be able to do so now. Not knowing what kind of equipment they have, I'd hesitate to make a guess as to why it won't work now.
