A4 TC lock up concern/problem

My car shifts out of 2nd at 78 mph, +/- 6,300 rpm, then in 3rd the rpms build to around 5,500rpm and it goes into TCC lock up I believe, as the rpms sink back to around 4,600 rpm. Then as the rpms climb back to around 5,700 rpm it gets revvy again and screams out, as if the TCC was unlocking.

I really should get the lap top on it at the race track, ... but ...

anyway if anyone wants to have a look at the LT1 editor file.

http://www3.telus.net/public/mackenz...ent%20tune.LT1

The usuall, right click and "save target as" otherwise the file doesn't open in LT1 editor properly.

Thx in advance

LWM

Sounds more like your 3rd clutch band is slipping at high rpm. If so, it will only get worse.

Thx for your time and input PoorMan ... but ...

I don't think the 3rd clutch pack is giving up the ghost. The symptoms are not getting any worse or better, and stay consistent even when the trans gets hot. When I said that the engine speeds up from 4,600 rpm to 5,700 rpm, it does that under a good load, then it seems to go into a lighter load, it is not "slipping" per say, that is it pulls strong and shifts at the designated 6,300 rpm, it's just that for a while there it is all bogged down in that 4,600 - 5,700 range. And after the 2 - 3 shift, when the beginning of the event occurs, the rpms drop significantly, so I'm not thinking it is slipping in that area either.

The 3rd clutch pack has 1 more friction in it than stock and all the grab and hold tables available in the editor have been "bumped" up about 15 - 25%. The transmission also has a mild shift kit.

I was thinking it was in the TCC apply table, but according to what I've put in there, it shouldn't be locking up untill 255mph. A bit of a mystery to me at the moment.

If anyone has the time, please have a look at the TCC tables in my file.

thx

Considering that the forced TCC lock at 95mph is still there, no wonder it feels like the TCC is locked....IT IS!
Does LT1 Edit allow you to remove this?

Forced lock??

Never heard of that ... can you go into a bit more detail? Why would they put values in to cause the TC to lock up at 95mph?

I was just looking at the 3rd and 4th performance TCC apply table and did see that there is a 95 value in there, for both 93% and 100% throttle.

I'll move those numbers up to 120 and see how it goes. I'm thinking I'll be a monkeys uncle when it works.

thx for the help Dan K

Not sure if LT1 edit shows the forced tcc lockup values. I know tc does. If you want me to raise the forced tcc let me know and I'll change it to 255 or whatever and send it to you.
Then you should be able to use normal and performance tables to control wot tcc lockup, I think.

Thx for the offer Dan, I'll try raising those 2 values I found in the TCC apply table for performance shifting in LT1 editor first. If it ever quits raining here.

I'm pretty sure it will work since what you are saying about the forced TCC lock in Tuner Cat has an approximate correlation in LT1 editor.

At any rate, I'll make the change and up load ... give it a run and I'll post my results ... might be a week or so though

thx

Because it pulls my rpms down from 5,500 to 4,600 rpm and I lose a lot of boost and thus hp. It's kinda like short shifting, the engine drops out of the power band.

Well, I'm back.

I edited all the TCC apply entries to 255 mph in 3rd and to 165mph in 4th.

It still locks to TC at around 95mph ... sigh.

I then "read" the PCM to confirm my upload, the upload was correct.

Anyone with LT1 editor ever find this ??

New tune updated ... right click and "save target as"

Does it per chance have something to do with the TCC release table as well??

thx

im not familiar with lt1 edit but in tunercat has the normal engage/release tables PLUS a forced lock table where you can change the forced lock mph
