97 File in 96 PCM?

Can this be done?
Anybody done it?
They are both OBDII. My instinct tells me there should be no problem doing this, but I want to be sure.
Thanks.

They use the same PCM, so I would not think there would be an issue.

The PCM has a different P.N. for years 96 and 97.
96 16214399
97 16242921

The programming software lets you edit both year files, but will not let you copy part of one file into the other.

Ok, I assumed they were the same without looking it up. My bad. It seems you need an opinion from someone who is more of an expert than I.

I have a 97 PCM running my 96 Z28. Should be fine...however I ran into the same thing you are...with it complaining about versions. I think you can somehow "force full program" it, but I didn't want to do that and took a different route.

I opened the program I wanted in the PCM and then compared it to the program in the PCM(using the compare differences). Then I printed out the differences and changed the tables accordingly. Longer way around the block, but it safely works.

I ended up changing my pcm to a 97 pcm. That way I could safely upload the 97 file.

I also got in touch with Bryan Herter from PCM for less, who has lots of experience on this subject and stated the following:

Question:
I wanted to know if I can upload the 97LT1 file into the 96 PCM.

BH:
If it is a manual car, yes they are interchangeable, if it is an automatic they often throw false codes if you do that swap and I would stick with a 97
