95' camaro PCM tuning

I just got a laptop and im going to be ordering a cable so i can do a little tuning on my car.........Im thinking that I should try to locate an extra PCM in case i mess mine up.......I know i have to OBD1 w/the OBD2 plug and my car is a 6 speed......I assume that it has to be out of a 95 Camaro or Firebird V8 6 speed......am I right?.......oh and im getting an older laptop from a friend, it is a windows 98 computer, will that be fine or would I gain anything by putting windows XP on it......Thanks

I wouldn't be to worried about messing anything up. I've done hundreds of write cycles on several cars with no issues.

Just make sure the battery isn't low and turn Everything off (Lights, blower, etc.) and dont touch anything while it's writing.
