1995 Z28 with obd1 or obd2?

My buddy has a 1995 Z28. He purchased a scanner for obd2 and it did not work but he has the obd 2 diagnostic connector under the dash. does he have an obd1 computer or obd2? what does he need to scan for diagnostic stuff for his car (cable and program)? thanks

'96's are OBD-II
The generic obd scanner works on them & newer.

the adapter must be OBD2, but the software must be OBD1.
