In my experience, the hardened exhaust valves & seats is not as common as you might think.
It's also not as critical as we've been lead to believe. It's most critical under sustained loading conditions, such as towing or hauling. I obtained a '71 GMC with a cabover camper in 1990 that needed a valve job. I ran it for 5 years after the valve job without any problems using an AMSOIL gas additive, didn't replace any valves or have any hardened seats installed. It was basically a poor valve job by GM back in 1971 that caused the problem.
So, I'd 2nd the part about it probably having had a valve job, which is the reason it'll probably be okay; and not because it probably already has the hardened stuff in it. Run it until it needs a valve job or you do some other upgrade that will make it convient to do the hardened valves/seats at the same time.

If the engine has never been apart, it should not be a problem since the years of using leaded fuel, when it was available, have coated the seats and valves long ago. If a valve job has been done and hard seats weren't installed, I would recommend a lead substitute or similar additive. I have seen exhaust valves sink in the head and destroy the seats in as little as 300 miles. The major determining factor, as stated above, is heat, load and rpm.
