Will this work? 69 Camaro front end on 69 firebird?

do the bodylines on the 69 camaro front end line up w/the bodylines of a 69 Firebird door? Would I have to replace the Firebirds doors w/Camaro doors? A friend of mine doesnt like the 69 Firebird front end and wants a Camaro front is what is going on..

Thanks for the input..

I think the 69 works the same way as 67-68, that is the doors are the same. There weren't many differences back then. It's pretty easy to convert 67-68 Camaro to F-bird and vice versa. I think the '69 is almost as easy.

Usless trivia: the first prototype '67 Firebird body was a used Camaro prototype. Pontiac front sheet metal was added, and the taillight panels were replaced. If I remember correctly, the front fenders were basically the same, except for marker lamps, and maybe a few holes. Of course, Pontiac used the OHC 6, the 350 and 400 V8.

At the time, Pontiac (read J.Z DeLorean) badly wanted a 2-seat sports car, but GM said no, actually NO F'ING WAY! So GM let JZD have the F-body named the Firebird, which might have been called the "GMX" except AMC got the "AMX" to market first. There really were "GMX" emblems.

Pontiac thought the monoleaf '67 Camaro rear suspension was so bad they used multileaf and 2 traction bars on the 400.

During those years Pontiac used blue tinted instrument panel lights, but Chevy used green. If I'm not mistaken, the '67 F-bird had green IP lights, because it couldn't be changed in time.

Anyone with a stock '67 confirm this? Blue in '68, I believe.

'67 400 in F-bird was the GTO engine, but downrated 10 or so hp. The Q-jet throttle linkage in the F-bird had a tab which prevented wide open throttle at the carb. Bending the tab out of the way was a quick 10+ hp.

It was fun back then!

I believe it CAN be done. The doors are interchangeable, and so are the subframes ans radiator core supports. So it shoul dbe a relatively easy swap, but why would you want to kill the good looks of the front of a 1 yr only 69 Firebird?

<shudder> no offense, but I think the 69 Firebird front end is very hideous.

Guess everyone's entitled to their opinion. All through highschool I wanted a first gen Camaro. I came across the 69 Firebird I now have and thought it looked unique and refined vs. the same old thing you see everyday.....Camaro's........

Hmmmm, what are you planning to do with the Firebird front end? What condition is it in?

well...its a 69 FB. Its in pretty good shape...its my friends project...assuming he buys the 69 FB. He wants a 1st gen Camaro, but I havent been able to find him a roller for a good price...the firebird is a good price and can be made to look like a 69 then that would be the way to go. The front end on the Firebird is in good shape its just that he likes the 69 Camaro's front end.

First off 67 and 68 Camaro doors are differant then 69 doors. The 69 has the flat wheel wells and has a body line that comes to an end on the door where the 67 and 68's do not. As for bolting the 69 Camaro front end onto a 69 Firebird. It will work. The 69 Firebird has the flat wheel wells and the same body line. The only differance is that the body line goes all the way to the front on the Firebird and it starts at the wheel well on the Camaro. But if you are only replacing the fenders then the body line will match up perfectly.

With the Camaros the 69 is unique. The only parts on the 69 that are interchangeable with the 67 and 68 are the hood and decklid. Everything else is differant. The other body parts will bolt up but they will not look right because of the differances in the wheel wells and the body lines.

here is a pic of a 69 Camaro and a 69 Firebird so you can see what I am talking about.
