Where to start

I just bought a 68 camaro. I would like to build a fast street car, where do I start?

I would like it to beat all the import cars and be able to take it on road trips.

I know I can spend way to much money on this so I need to know what is important, what should I go all out on and what can I spare.

What do you look for in header, leaf springs etc?

I don't really want to get into the engine stuff because I would like to buy a built engine, thinking about a 383 stroker, about 450 HP for 4500. This is the biggest bang for my buck.

I have not bought it so I am not set on the engine if there is something that would better fit my needs.

As you can tell I am totally new and would like to start planning and getting some sort of direction. I don't want get started and figure most of the things I have done do not fit my plan.

Thanks,

MTmace

Going by the price of that 383, it probably has a steel crank and forged pistons. If so, get it along with 2 fuel systems and a 200 HP nitrous kit. The car should go 12s on motor and MAYBE 10s on spray.

It was orignally a six so it still has some of those parts like radator, rear end, not sure gear ration but it is a 10 bolt, mono leaf springs, no power steering or breaks.
Has 350, tubro 350 trans. How do I tell if it is "solid"?

I don't really think I want to add NOS, I might take it on the strip but would like to focus on overall speed, cornering is important to.

if you want something quicker than the imports i would do a ls1/t56 or a4 which ever you perfer and a 323 or 342 what ever comes close to it for a gear ratio itll be reliable and quick
