Where to start?

Where to start?

I just purchased a 69 SS for $4k (without motor or trans.) The body is all original, but has about 1" of rust above the rear fender (I have a new quarter panel to replace this.) So basically, I have a clean slate to work with. My plan is to add disc brakes before the engine is in. I'm still debating a 402 that I can get relatively easy or spending a more for an LS1.

My question to you is what would you do if you had a 69 to build from the ground up. I look forward to your opinions.

402 would be easier, as everything to bolt a big block in a 1st gen is available off the shelf. LS1 would be more unique. Either could be made very quick, so it's up to you to decide if you are willing to make the greater investment in time and money to go LS1.

But LS1 + T56 + 12 bolt =

I personally would go with the big block. I own a big block Camaro and it is a blast to drive. The car will blow the tires away when you stab the throttle at 35 mph, and it is just basicly a stock L-78. I guess I am still living in the past and havent quite got into the whole pro touring thing yet, but there are some nice ones out there. Which ever way you deside to go I think you will really enjoy the car and the experience.

Most definitely a big block... old school style. I'd also dress it up to "look" like a 396.

Big block.............You won't have the inspection hassles like you would with the LS1. That is if you were to mod the LS1 like we all want to do. Be sure to chec the back of the front fenders real good and the bottom front of the doors for rust. These are the most common places. By all means, Check the floor pan.
