Wheel and Tire fittment questions
I am trying to help out a friend with his 69 camaro . He is planning on lowering it 1" in the front and 2" in the rear and he wants to add a set of 18x8 wheels . What he needs to know is what backspacing and tires would work with his planned modifications . Any help would be appreciated .

4" backspacing on both.
I would not recommend doing anything over 7" when you drop the front because of clearance problems if you stick with the stock suspension. Use 3.5" spacing if you go with the 7's.
Use 255's with 8" rims and 235's with the 7's.

Someone had suggested this setup "On a 1st generation camaro you can run 18x8s with 5" of back space on the front with a 245/40-18 tire. In the rear a 18x9.5 with 5.5" back space with a 275/40-18 tire." . You couldnt run this setup if the car was lowered then could you ?

With that much backspace, you'd be awfully close to the shocks in the back. I've relocated mine inside the framerails and run 9.5's. Very tight fit and had to trim the quarter lip to get them in there.
I'm just not sure up front if that's going to do it. It may but here's the deal - you're not going to find 18" wheels with 5" of offset anywhere but custom made. You're looking at about 6 weeks, more $, and no return if they don't work.
