What's up?!
Hey how's it goin? My name's Lee. I just scored myself a 1978 Camaro. It's an LT with the 350 out of a 73 Z28 dropped in. It's also got the Z28 hood. I'll post some pics up after the new carb is installed!
**edit**
Whoops! forgot to drop the question in:
Is the gas mileage really that much better on a 2 barrel than a 4 barrel. I was told this, but I want to know from someone who has one.

I know a couple guys who get better gas mileage with their 4bbl carbs because of the smaller primaries. If you can keep your foot off the floor you'll get better mileage, but if you like hearing the secondaries open up, you might gain a couple MPG with a 2bbl, but a 4bbl is a lot more fun.
I speak from experience, I'm the guy stuck with the 2bbl for the time being
I heard this from one of the streetracers in my area and it really applies to your situation:
"People shouldn't try to make econoboxes into musclecars, why try to make musclecars into econoboxes?"
His might have been turned around to poke fun at ricers, but either way it it makes a point.

I agree with everything nape said. He basically said pretty much the things I would have posted. The smaller primaries on the Q Jet are *excellent* for part-throttle economy, and with those big secondaries, power is but a mashed gas pedal away.

I'm looking forward to seeing pics of your ride.
