Whats the biggest Crank that a 400 sbc can take?

Well I have right now a bare 400 sbc.I will be given a 3.800 scat crank from a buddy of mine.My question will it fit on a 400 sbc?

thats about the longest stroke you can fit in a stock block, and you will probably have to use a small base circle cam to clear the rods. You will still have to do some clearancing on the pan rails, and the bottom of the cylinders. I would double check for piston availability also, although you could get custom ones built.

they can go to 434 with a 4" stroke.. but its a pain. Check into stroker clearanced rods. Most H beams come clearanced. Some reduced base circle cams are not much smaller than standard and will often times not be enough clearance. I ended up with a .9" basecircle on a 3.75 stroke but i am using I beam rods.

All the 434's I've seen used aftermarket or Bowtie blocks, and it was still close. On a stock block you have to be real careful not to hit water. I have also had the block poured with Hard block before we started grinding, just to be on the safe side. But each block has to be checked to be sure.
