what times to expect?
Last Saturday I took my Z-28 to the strip for a trial run, just to see how quick it is. My rear tires are really poor, eight year old Firestone S/S Radials. They have a poor grip. Anyway I did expect to run mid to low 13s but ended up with a best of 14.75 and 103mph. 60 foot time was a poor 2.64. It did spin heavily on first and second gear and started to get some grip on third. The track was not prepared with trackbite.
My 396 has a LS-6 cam and L-87 heads. 750 Holley on a Weiand intake. Hooker headers and 3 inch system.
So guys can you help me, how fast should I expect. Next try will be on slicks.
You can see my first run on my homepage.
Thanks
Jan

It sounds like you had NO traction what so ever. Because of that; I would say that mph # is low and you can prob expect 12.80's @ 106-107.
Good luck and let us know what happens.

Rear axle is original pegleg 2:73 for now
Initial T/T = 13.58 @ 104.1 mph w/ 2.27 60ft.
Expecting 12.5's w/ new 12 bolt posi 3:73.

yup. 103 mph is low 13 sec. range. and since the 60's were so horrible, expect the mph to go up more. esp. w/slicks. I have 255/5015 nitto drag radials and they work pretty good. my bad runs are usually in the 2.0 range for the sixty foot and Im running comparable power to what your making. check time in sig.
also, I had a 396 in a sec. gen car that went 13.0's @ 105 w/old street radials, but I got pretty good at launching that car and it went 1.9s on the better runs. even w/the crappy tires. that car prolly would have went 12.80's on drag radials though.

Thanks for the replies, unfortunatelly the season is ending quickly over here, fall is coming fast. The last race is this weekend and I can not be there. I have simply to wait until next year.
Anyway I am now confident that it should be a lot quicker and next run will be on slicks.
Thanks
