What springs for front end of big block second gen..??

What springs for front end of big block second gen..??

What are some good springs to get..something that is stock ride height and isn't too harsh but will work good with big block ,blower and aluminum heads..also have no air conditioning and will likey move battery to trunk to also lighten up front end.I use the car mostly street but it will see some track use.

I recommend that you call Classic Industries or National Parts Depot for the proper springs. You will have to tell them all the modifications that you have done to your car and they will be able to hook you up with the correct springs.

springs

i have a set of bbc springs, they came off my 70 camaro. they were on it when i bought it, i know they arent the original ones. my car looks kinda stupid with the front end sticking up in the air, i'll sell em for 40.00+ship.

Leave your current springs in the car.
Put the engine in the car the way you want it and see how it sits. It'll probably sit close to "just right".

Then bring your car to a scale and weigh the front end of it. With the front wheels on the scale and the rear wheels off.

Now you have a weight for the front of your car and you can come close to ordering the "correct" spring - if necessary. Anyone else will just be guessing what spring you need if they pull a part # out of a book. A stock BBC spring will probably push your nose up too high because you've eliminated a bunch of weight off your car.

I put a 454 in my 80Z using the original springs. It sat nice. It handled like crap but that's the way it works. I put new SBC springs in my car with a now aluminum headed small block chevy and the front of my car looks like an old gasser. I need to cut it a bit to get the correct ride height.

So, what I'm saying here is: Save your money and some grief and go with what you already have unless you know the current springs are no good. Then you can figure out what you need, if you need it. New springs only cost $80 and most likely they'll still need to be cut.

That's a good way to go, Mike... but my suggestion is simpler, unfortunately it goes against one of your suggestions.

Get the Moog replacement springs for a 3rd gen IROC.

They are (or should be) ~766# springs. I have a buddy with a 80TA with a poncho BB and stock heads, and AC. But a bit of weight has been taken out from under the hood, but nothing super heavy. It sits _perfect_. Looks gorgious with his 16x8's under it. And looks better when racing with his 17x11's under it. Handles amazingly.

Anyway, that's my suggestion. I run these springs with my car, and love the look, even tho I'm slightly higher, only having the weight of a SBC...
