Sometimes even the best anti-theft devices won't stop theives from getting your car either. A roll back or regular tow truck are real easy ways to steal the car.

Even many kill switches aren't fool proof.

Make him spend several minutes trying to get the car rolling and hes going to give up and move onto the next car. Anyone could learn enough to get around the best antithefts. From being a mechanic and working on so many different cars you learn how to hotwire them just because youve seen how they are wired. Same with the antithefts/alarms. If you see where they tap into the car its just a matter of bypassing/disabling them.

That is basically what I want. I know, that given enough time, a pro can steal any car, but I am more worried about the joyrider/chop shop. I know that if 1 car is somewhat harder to steal than another car, these guys will just move on. That is what I am hoping for anyway. I don't live in a huge city where professional car theives are a major problem.

Thanks for all of the advice
Dustin

Man i thought i was paranoid about my car being stolen, but some of you guys take the cake. Anything short of un bolting the carb or taking a wheel around with you wont make you guys sleep at night. to be honest there isnt much "proffesional theft" market out for classics, theifs are lookin for civics and accords more than camaros and chevelles. They sell most of them for parts, and there isnt much money in classics. You are more than likely gonna get a joy rider or some idiot who isnt gonna spend the time looking for kill switches or what have you. So relax and enjoy driving your cars!

Oddly enough.... a tiny little blinking red light inside my car does a great job...

What you are trying to do is discourage the first two groups. To discourage, they need to see something... hence the club, alarm stickers, lights etc...

Even though I am installing a kill switch... they can't see it, and don't know it is there until AFTER they have broken in... (and probably done some damage)

So use both.

Yeah you know it bad when I'd rather someone steal my new truck that my nova.. I havent gotten a policy with these guys yet, but from what i hear your insurance worries are nill with grundy classic car insurance.. they do require an appraisal but on your car that wont be a problem.. here is their WEBSITE.. short of a pneumatic spike on a 30 second time delay mounted under the drivers seat (sic, i'd probably go to jail for manslaughter or at least rectum rerouter) A thief will get to the car if they are determined enough.. yes hotwires are easy, toggles are easy to find.. but two of the slickest ideals I have heard of are using the relay and a simple magnet to operate a hidden relay on the starter circuit or fuel circuit.. checkout ..THIS LINK and if you dont smoke this is also pretty slick, it had something to do with running a line off an msd box (there is another source but dont recall it) to the cigarette lighter.. (gotta disconnect the 12v hot and depress the lighter when you get out of the car) and it grounds out the box and the car will not start at all.. another alternative is the brake line lock.. depress the pedals.. activate it and it keeps constant brake pressure on all 4 wheels.. I'll check my 6 on the rest of the lighter info and email the details when i get em

Actually in a recent Chevy High Performance magazine they stated that the camaro, corvette, and chevelle classics are in the top 10 CHEVY cars (of all year model chevys) stolen nation wide.

I'm going to have a plate made that'll fit on my dash that says

"If you take this car...I WILL find you and then gut you, shoot your wife and parents, drown your kids and pets, and burn your house and cars to the ground. Are you SURE that you want this car.
Signed
Bad Mother F$%ker"

I've talked to Onstar about getting their theft tracking system installed. That thing is TOP of the line...all you have to do is have them install it somewhere really sneaky and they can track it to the ends of the earth. I'd get them to tell me where it is and not call the police...me and my 50 cal. desert eagle would do all the talking!

I thought OnStar only goes into "new" cars. We can install it like LoJack into our classics? What are the $$$ rates? LoJack is $1100 plus monthly...

By the way, it's good to hear that I'm not the only one with a 50 cal.

It's not that much a month...like $150-300. You could go all out and get the driving directions thing with the computer screen maps, but I'm just talking about the search/locate features. Go to there website...talk with a local dealer...and see what they can do for you.

Well of course the camaros corvettes and chevelles are going to be in the top 10 for chevy cars, what else are they gonna steal from chevy owners? The popular Chevy (some years GEO) metro? or perhaps the chevette? All i am saying is that Acuras and Hondas are the most popular cars to be stolen. There is much more professional market out for newer cars. You can chop a new car up and find a thousand people with the same car that need parts, hell probably thousand people with the same color.

Anyway, I would say go with lo-jack, that the SH$%

Checking with www.onstar.com it seems that it is not an available option for Camaros. Only those vehicles manufactured with it in the wiring harnesses.

You can have put it in the wiring harness...anything is possible in the automotive world! It wouldn't be an available option for a 35 year old car anyways...you've got to contact a dealer who supplies onstar equipment to dealers or individuals. Ask them if you can have a technician install the Onstar System (basic stuff like the theft recovery thing...be clear that you don't want the damn satelite guidance/computer map thing...just the theft deterient system. I promise you that if you tell the dealer you'll spend the cash to get it done he'll jump through hoops for you like they did for me. I didn't get it done yet, but I will if I have to do it myself.
