What kind of heads are these??

I recently picked up a 73 Z/28 with the intention of yanking the motor out and putting either an LS-1 or LS-2 into it.

I'm going to drive the car this year with the 350 that came in it.

I was told the heads were Dart heads but I can't find any Dart markings on them. There is supposed to be a part number on the face of the drivers side head facing the front of the car but I can't see anything.

When I took off the valve covers the only markings I could see were:

Drivers side starting at#1 and going back to #7
I or 1 W then below were EBT

In the middle were CF in a circle

S/R
I-052

Pass side head
2-8

2 W
HF7
In the middle were CF in a circle

S/R
I-052

Any ideas?

It's been a while since I have worked on an old school sbc.

Thanks,
Marc

Curtg21,
My wife took the camera to her parents, will post some pics tomorrow when the camera comes home (oh yea and the wife and kid too)

The block is supposed to be numbers matching but I haven't looked for that either and I do intend to keep the block if it is numbers matching. Definatly a good idea

Brady thought they might be World heads, I've sent them a message and will see what they say.

They are iron heads.

Here's a link to some pics of the car (no motor pics)

www.nastyz28.com should have alot of the numbers you need to verify the "numbers matching" parts.

Re: What kind of heads are these??

Marc -- Robvas is correct, those heads are World S/R castings. As well as the obvious "S/R" cast into the head, "I-052" indicates the S/R head. If it was a 305 'Torquer' head for example, it would have '305' cast into the head instead of 'S/R'. The 'CF' in a circle is the foundry mark. World has used a few different foundries to cast their heads over the years. "EBT" and "HF7" are casting date codes.

Hope that helps you out.
