what to do?
i have just recently gotten a divorce. i have some time and money. i want to start upgrading my classic 67 camaro to 650hp street driven. i have a 350 from a 69'vette. w/a th350 tranny. where should i start first to get to my hp limit. any help would be great.
hey man, sorry to hear about the divorce, or maybe congrats, whatever you want
cant tell you a good combo in that HP rnage everything will be high maintinence at that extreme though, either you will need NOS, Blower, or solid lift cam and outrageous stall, anyways just wanted to say hey, and hopefully the car will get the attention now......

Hey I hope your stress level is going down now. The previous post is right! If you want that kind of outrageous power you may wish to consider a big block. Man I hope you have a tonne of cash socked away!!! LMAO. To think what it cost me to make 350rwhp!!! Budgets suck LOL
You don't HAVE to go big block to get that kinda power, but you'll have to use some kind of power adder (nitrous, blower, turbo) to get it with a small-block.
Figure you can pretty easily get 400-450hp out of a NA 350. A 200-250 hit of nitrous will get your power up there, and it's going to be the least expensive way to do it.
A 6-71 roots blower with ~10# boost, 7.5-8:1 compression, and forged everything should do it, and you'll have tremendious low-end power as well.
If you like centrifugal blowers you can run a bit more compresion on the motor, but you'll have less low-end power because the centrifugal doesn't make boost untill higher rpm's. With a centrifugal blower, you might also consider running EFI, they woek better together.
Finally, there's turbos. Definately the most expensive, but probably the easiest way to get insane power. You'll really have to run EFI for the turbos to work effeciently in a street motor. Take a look at this guys site to see some info about a great twin-turbo SBC build... www.grapeaperacing.com/GrapeApeRacing/index.htm
Of course don't forget that after you've got the motor built, you'll have to drop a bunch more change on the tranny, driveshaft, and rear axle so that they can handle the power. You're probably looking at a nice 5-digit check once everything is said and done...
In a 3500# car, 650hp at the flywheel (~520 at the wheels) would get you 11@124mph assuming good traction and proper gearing
650hp at the wheels would get you 10.2@134mph (again with traction and gearing). Take it easy, that's alot of power!

well....i guess 650rwhp, will be just a tad to much. how about 500rwhp? my divorce is a blessing. amen. i will have a good amount of money a month to do what is needed. so, where do i begin with the upgrades? the tranny has been rebuilt w/an upgraded shift kit. i know what to do with the rear and tranny. all i need to know is where to start on the engine. thank you. any help please.
