okay i confused myself once again

i have a 327ci motor in my camaro that was bored .40 over and has the stock length rods in it. THe compression is (i think) 10.5:1. I found on some site that 327ci = 4.001"bore x 3.250" stroke

so if i have it bored .40 over that would make the bore 4.401???

i pluged that into the virtual engine calculator that i found online and it said my motor is 395.5ci

40 over is 0.040 not 0.400

A 4" bore is always called 4.001 so 40 over would be 4.041"

With a 3.25" stroke your 327 is now a 333.45 CID

 

wow a whole 5 cubic inch upgrade.thats why you dont bore more than you have to .keep the metal in the block for strength and most importantly cooling..2-4 cubes dont mean squat.

 

But when you figure a good engine can produce about 1hp per CID, that's a 5 hp increase. A very good race engine making 2hp per CID, that's 10 more hp.

 

Not much different than a 350 bored .030" over ... they end up being a 355. I think .060" over puts them at ~360 cu.in., but who wants to run around with their 350 punched out .060" over?!

 

The motor was bored for the rebuild, thats all.

I'm up to a 540. Next jump is to a 555. If I ever get to the point where I need a 632, it will be time to retire from racing
