water pump

QUESTION, I HAVE A 383 STROKER MOTOR 400 PLUS HORSE POWER. I WAS TOLD TO USE AN ELECTRIC WATER PUMP, SO I BOUGHT ONE. NOW I'M BEING TOLD BY SOMEONE ELSE THAT THE ELETRIC WATER PUMP WONT KEEP MY ENGINE COOL AND TO USE A STANDARD OR STOCK WATER PUMP. WHICH ONE IS BETTER AND OR WHICH ONE WOULD YOU USE.

ALSO, I WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED A BETTER FAN. I HAVE A 15' S BLADE FAN THAT PUTS OUT 2700 CFM (NEW). WILL THIS FAN HELP KEEP THE ENGINE COOL OR WILL I HAVE TO BUY ANOTHER ONE.

THANKS FOR THE HELP, SMITTY

If you just drag race then electric pump is fine, but electric pumps really aren't made for daily use. Stock water pumps will keep up with 400horses for daily use...if your track racing this thing then you'll need something like an underdrive belt system or a "bigger pump". You might have some problems with heating if you run it hard and come to a stand still in traffic...but just about every old car with heat in a traffic jam.

The fan sounds fine to me...just don't use one of those flexlite fans that supposively flexes at high speeds and allows the engine to make "better power". I've only heard bad things about those. I didn't see if you said the 15 incher was electric or regular metal fan, but either way that should be adequate. Mine makes about 500hp and it's got an 11 inch electric fan with a big radiator.

I've had great results with Weiand's Aluminum sbc waterpumps. Never leaked and always kept my motor cool.
