Vette
ok, i finally got my 66 mustang sold, thank god, anyway, i'm now going to look at a 77 vette today, it is up for sale for $2000, and the guy says it runs, has t-tops, but needs brakes....it is painted like the 25th anv. edition.....what do you guys think?
I'd give you a vette forum if I knew one. Anyway, as a general tip on older cars, check for rust because that kind of work can be more expensive than drivetrain work. I'm not sure what trouble spots are on the vettes but checking down at the base of the doors and under the car on the floor pans is a good idea. Camaros had a problem with the base of the rear window getting rust. I think some t-tops had problems with leaking but I'm not sure since I don't have them. Brakes will not be hard to fix on your own. If it needs a master cylinder or some calipers, it may be a good idea to let a shop do it unless you have experience bleeding the brake system. I'm not sure what you might want to check on the engine visually other than condition of hoses, wires, belts. Ask if you can pull the dipstick to see the oil. Also tranny fluid if its an auto (make sure there aren't particles and doesn't smell burnt). I guess it all depends what kind of condition you're willing to start with. Good luck

That is cheap for a vette; I'd be very cautious. Things like headlight problems can be horribly expensive to fix if it turns out to be a rusted surround.
Ask in here what to look out for on that year vette:
