two speed tranny?

I am located in Australia and am considering purchasing a 69 Firebird. The guy says that the tranny is a 2 speed and not a power-glide. He says it is 250. Any help please? Also would it be difficult to install power steering? Thanks for any help.

G'day mate.
I couldn't find anything about a PONTIAC 250 tranny.
Steering isn't too hard once you get the parts. Everything is a bolt-on. At least it wasn't hard on a 67 Camaro. The resevoir is the part that I couldn't find. and had to use the old one. I did an AGR pump and box.

Th250 is a light duty version of the TH350. So it's a 3 speed. If car is a 2 speed, it's a powerglide.

Power steering box will bolt right in place of the manual box. Hard part would be getting proper pump/mounting brackets. They are different for each type engine. If the box is not off a 69 Fbody, the stops will probably be wrong. These determine how far you can crank the wheels and are chassis specific.

There is some demand for manual steering boxes from people who want to reclaim the 10hp or so it takes to run the pump. If you were stateside, you might find someone who would swap a power system for your manual box. I'd like to go manual on my 71, but manual boxes are hard to find for 2nd gens. Unless you want to pop $$$ for the Flamimg River box.

If the transmission in this vehicle is a 2 speed Power glide is the same auto that was used in sedans around the same period
